THE SUMMIT COUNTY DRUG UNIT WILL CONTINUE TO COORDINATE THE FLOW OF INTELLIGENCE AND INFORMATION THROUGH FEDERAL AND LOCAL DRUG TASK FORCES PERTAINING TO INVESTIGATIONS THAT TARGET HIGH LEVEL DRUG TRAFFICKERS AND THEIR ORGANIZATIONS. THE SUMMIT COUNTY DRUG UNIT HAS JOINED THE OHIO HIDTA INITIATIVE. THE SUMMIT COUNTY DRUG UNIT WORKS CLOSELY WITH THE SUMMIT COUNTY PROSECUTOR€„¢S OFFICE AS WELL AS THE UNITED STATES ATTORNEY€„¢S OFFICE TO IDENTIFY AND DISMANTLE DRUG TRAFFICKING ORGANIZATIONS IN ADDITION TO HOMELAND SECURITY THREATS. THE SUMMIT COUNTY DRUG UNIT COMMANDER WORKS IN A CLOSE COOPERATIVE AND COORDINATED EFFORT WITH THE AKRON POLICE DEPARTMENT NARCOTICS UNIT, THE UNITED STATES TASK FORCES TO IDENTIFY AND TARGET THE SOURCES OF ILLEGAL DRUG TRAFFICKING, VIOLENCE, GANG ACTIVITIES AND WEAPONS INTO THE SUMMIT COUNTY OHIO AREA. THE AKRON POLICE DEPARTMENT GANG UNIT AND THE UNITED STATES MARSHALS OFFICE ARE WORKING WITH THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION AND HAVE INITIATED A 'SAFE STREETS PROGRAM' TO IDENTIFY AND TARGET FOR PROSECUTION CRIMINAL ENTERPRISE GROUPS RESPONSIBLE FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING, MONEY LAUNDERING, ALIEN SMUGGLING AND CRIMES OF VIOLENCE TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR RESIDENTS OF SUMMIT COUNTY OHIO.
