The grants below have been awarded to one of the cities or counties we are currently tracking in this database. It is not a complete list of all grants awarded from this assistance program, which may include additional cities, counties, or other jurisdictions and/or grants not awarded to law enforcement agencies.

We do not recommend aggregating the amounts shown here, as these grants may include both prime and sub grants. Totaling the grant amount here would result in some funding being double-counted – for example, if a county received a grant and subsequently made a sub-grant to a city within the county.

WITH THIS FUNDING, LCPD PROPOSES TO IMPLEMENT ADDITIONAL SMART TECHNOLOGIES TO INCREASE EFFICIENCIES IN ADMINISTRATIVE AND INVESTIGATIVE PROCESSES. SPECIFICALLY, LCPD WILL PURCHASE LICENSES FOR NEW AUTO-TRANSCRIPTION SOFTWARE. THE AUTO-TRANSCRIPTION SOFTWARE IS CLOUD-BASED AND COMMUNICATES DIRECTLY WITH LCPDÂ S BODY-WORN CAMERAS TO AUTOMATICALLY TRANSCRIBE AUDIO STATEMENTS, EVIDENCE, AND REPORTS. OFFICERS IN THE FIELD CAN SIMPLY AUDIO-RECORD REPORTS, WHICH ARE THEN AUTO-TRANSCRIBED, AND REVIEWED BY TRANSCRIPTION PERSONNEL. THE SOFTWARE, CURRENTLY BEING PILOTED THROUGH A FREE TRIAL, WILL HELP TO EVENTUALLY ELIMINATE THE LENGTHY PROCESS OF MANUALLY TRANSCRIBING STATEMENTS, EVIDENCE, AND REPORTS; IMPROVE REPORT ACCURACY THROUGH REAL-TIME RECORDING; AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE THE TIME SPENT BY OFFICERS GENERATING REPORTS. THE TRANSCRIPTION SOFTWARE ALSO HAS THE ABILITY TO TRANSLATE REPORTS FROM ENGLISH TO SPANISH, WHICH HELPS TO ENSURE LIMITED ENGLISH PROFICIENT (LEP) VICTIMS HAVE ACCESS TO TRANSLATED REPORTS FOR COURT PURPOSES. THIS HELPS LCPD TO COMPLY WITH STATE AND LOCAL REQUIREMENTS TO PROVIDE LEP INDIVIDUALS MEANINGFUL ACCESS TO PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS SOFTWARE WILL SAVE LCPD MONEY IN THE LONG TERM, AS THE CURRENT DICTATION SOFTWARE COULD BE PHASED OUT AND DATA STORAGE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE NEW SOFTWARE ARE LOWER. ULTIMATELY, LCPD ANTICIPATES THAT THE EFFICIENCIES ACHIEVED THROUGH THIS PROJECT WILL IMPROVE ADMINISTRATIVE EFFICIENCIES AND EVENTUALLY DECREASE ASSOCIATED COSTS. THESE EFFICIENCIES WILL RESULT IN AN INCREASE IN THE TIME OFFICERS CAN DEDICATE TO COMMUNITY-BASED OUTREACH AS WELL AS IMPROVED ACCESS TO ACCURATE AND REAL-TIME CRIME DATA. WITH BETTER DATA, LCPD WILL HAVE ENHANCED CAPACITY TO UTILIZE PREDICTIVE MODELS TO BETTER TARGET LAW ENFORCEMENT RESOURCES TO REDUCE CONCENTRATED CRIME IN VULNERABLE COMMUNITIES AND ENSURE LAS CRUCENS CITYWIDE ARE SAFE AND ABLE TO THRIVE.

THE DRUG PROBLEM IN REGION III IS ACCURATELY ADDRESSED IN THE 2019 ANNUAL HIDTA THREAT ASSESSMENT ON PAGE 15, WHICH IS THE SAME DRUG STRATEGY ADOPTED BY THE DEAC BOARD. REGION III CONTINUES TO FOCUS ON THE HEROIN PROBLEM, WHICH IS THE BIGGEST THREAT, FOLLOWED BY COCAINE AND METHAMPHETAMINE. REGION III DEVELOPS CASES THROUGH INTELLIGENCE, CONFIDENTIAL SOURCES AND MANY HOURS OF SURVEILLANCE. THIS LEADS TO UNDERCOVER BUYS BY AGENTS, SEARCH WARRANTS AND BUY-BUST OPERATIONS. REGION III USES JAG FUNDS TO EXECUTE THE ABOVE-LISTED ACTIVITIES IN BOTH NARCOTIC PURCHASES, INFORMANT COMPENSATION AND OVERTIME FOR PARTICIPATING AGENTS.
