ONE OF THE STRONGEST ASSETS OF A BIKE UNIT OFFICER IS THAT THEY ARE MORE APPROACHABLE AND MAKE TWICE AS MANY FACE-TO-FACE CONNECTIONS THAN AN OFFICER ON PATROL IN A VEHICLE OR ON FOOT. THE ABSENCE OF THE PHYSICAL BARRIER OF A VEHICLE COUPLED WITH THE COMMONALITY OF THE BICYCLE MAKE BUILDING RAPPORT WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS EASIER. TO ENSURE CONSISTENT AND TIMELY REVIEW OF NIBIN HITS, THE POSITION OF A NIBIN COORDINATOR WAS CREATED WITH FUNDING FROM THE 2017 JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT; THIS GRANT CONTINUES FUNDING FOR THIS POSITION. THE NIBIN COORDINATOR PROVIDES INVESTIGATIVE SUPPORT THROUGH ENHANCING INVESTIGATIVE LEADS WITH ACTIONABLE CASE INTELLIGENCE, SO CSPD DETECTIVES CAN CONDUCT MORE FOCUSED INVESTIGATIONS OF GUN CRIMES.
